THE CHALLENGE
Not only is Amazon processing 800 transactions per second (69 million transactions per day), but the success of their fast delivery options (and other vendors which have followed suit) has put significant strain on delivery services such as FedEx and UPS. Poor lighting conditions in the back of the truck makes it difficult for drivers to locate and efficiently deliver packages. The problem is compounded during the holiday season as more packages are being delivered and the sun sets earlier in the day.
How can this entire experience be reimagined such that the driver, the package, and the truck could communicate with each other seamlessly so that the driver would know exactly where to find specific packages within the back of the truck, day or night? A successful solution would reduce effort and stress levels for the driver, improve successful delivery rates, and improve overall route efficiencies. In some manner or form, the solution had to involve Truck-Lite (project sponsor) lighting technologies.
THE SOLUTION
The team developed MESIA - A Smart Package Loading and Delivery System to improve the driver's experience and reduce the high turnover rates that plague the logistics and package delivery industry.
